Low-wage Laborer
2022
Acrylic on canvas
40 x 50 cm
Low-wage laborers in Asia deliver much needed workers in construction, farming, food service, logistics, and more. With little or no benefits such as paid leave or retirement income, they work six to seven days a week with a minimum of government health insurance. Often men and women in their 60s work at jobs requiring long hours and hard labor. In this painting based on a series of photos which I took, this elderly woman is delivering supplies to a merchant located inside the central railway station in Bangkok. The color palette was inspired by Caravaggio.
